The funding agency below has limited the number of preliminary proposals to two per institution. If the number of faculty wishing to submit a proposal exceeds the number allowed by the agency, we will conduct an internal selection process. Below are due dates for the program, including the due date of the internal proposal for review by the internal selection committee, the date for announcement of the internal selection and the due date for submission to the agency.

PROGRAM TITLE: Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards
BRIEF
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The
ORAU Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancements Awards Program is designed for
junior faculty to enrich their research and professional growth.
The research project outlined
in the proposal must be in one of the following five disciplines: engineering and applied science; life
sciences; mathematics/computer sciences; physical sciences; and policy,
management or education.
ORAU encourages applicants to
develop research collaborations with government, private-sector and other
academic researchers. Also, ORAU encourages
interactions with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

AGENCIES ELIGIBLE TO SUBMIT: The Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancements
Awards Program is open to ORAU member institutions, of which Texas A&M
University is a
member. Eligible faculty must be
full-time assistant professors within two years of their initial tenure track
appointment (2-1-2006 through 2-1-2008).
AWARD INFORMATION: ORAU
awards $5,000 for a one year period.
ELIGIBLE PROJECT COSTS: ORAU
does not allow overhead charges or indirect costs on the award from ORAU or the
university match.
COST SHARING: ORAU requires the institution to match the award with at least an additional $5,000.
Internal
Selection Procedures and Deadlines
December 6, 2007:
Deadline
for an email of intent, including the names of the PI and co-PIs, title of
internal proposal and a 1-3 sentence description of the project. Send email of intent to osppc@tamu.edu
December 7, 2007: Deadline to obtain signatures of approval from your department head and college dean to submit an internal proposal to the Office of Sponsored Projects for review by the internal selection committee. The internal proposal should include:
An executive summary, up to two pages, based on the proposal description
as outlined in the ORAU program announcement;
Summary budget;
A nomination letter from your
chair or dean.

submitted electronically to osppc@tamu.edu for review by the internal
selection committee.

Selection of a proposal will
be based on ORAU guidelines. Meeting the
needs of the university’s reinvestment plan will also be taken into account.
During the selection process,
the internal selection committee may contact departments and colleges for their
opinions and commitments. They may also
request additional information from PIs.
December 14, 2007: The Internal Selection
Committee will notify PIs of the result of the internal competition.
February 1, 2008: Deadline for the full proposal.
