Further, the Population Research Infrastructure Program seeks to advance scientific knowledge on the processes that determine population size, growth, composition and distribution, and on the determinants and consequences of those processes.  The scope of population research topics may include:  research on the antecedents and consequences of changes in population size, structure and composition; research on families and households; research on fertility; research on population movement and distribution; demographic and social science research on health, morbidity, disability, health disparities and mortality; and behavioral research on the sexual transmission on HIV; as well as research that primarily focuses on the social, cultural, familial and economic determinants and consequences of these diseases and conditions.

Proposals may request support in research support cores and developmental infrastructure.  Research support cores may include:  administrative core, computing core, information core and methodology support cores.  Developmental infrastructure may include:  seed grant programs, activities that foster the development of new core services and workshops, conferences, seminar series and visiting scholar programs.
