Lockheed Martin Strategic Technology Threads.

WHAT:        Limited Submission Proposal for the Lockheed Martin Strategic Technology Threads. 

WHO:          Texas A&M University faculty, including TAES, TEES and TTI personnel. 

WHY:          Further information will be available if invited for full proposal. 

WHEN:        Deadline for submission of text-only abstracts is May 9, 2008. 

HOW:          Faculty should submit abstract via email for review by the internal selection committee.    

THE FINE PRINT: 

The funding agency, Lockheed Martin, has limited the number of abstracts to five per institution. 

BRIEF PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:  The Lockheed Martin Strategic Technology Threads Program is designed to establish research activities which will:  focus on technologies enabling strategic growth; provide principal support for faculty lead investigator and research team; and aim at results in about two years useful for further product development.   

There are a number of subject areas which are appropriate for this program:  advanced active and passive sensing; advanced software; autonomous systems; bioinformatics; biometrics; chemical-biological defense and response; decision support systems; directed energy; distributed intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) and attack; energy and power; information assurance and operations; nanotechnology; predictive and responsive logistics; and signatures and phenomenology. 

Further, Lockheed Martin specifies that no confidential or proprietary information should be in the abstract or accompanying material.  Failure to abide by this requirement will result in deletion without review by Lockheed Martin.

Internal Selection Procedures and Deadlines     

May 9, 2008: Deadline to obtain signatures of approval from your department head and college dean to submit an abstract to the Office of Sponsored Projects for review by the internal selection committee.  The abstract is limited to a maximum of 750 words. Please note that the character space is not limited on the submission form so, be sure that you insert no more that 750 typed words.

Secure the signatures of the PI, Department Head and College Dean. Scan the entire document and send here.

This completed form should be submitted electronically for review by the internal selection committee.

Please read the information provided by Lockheed Martin carefully for specific requirements of the program here          

Selection of an abstract will be based on Lockheed Martin guidelines.  The needs of the university’s reinvestment plan will also be taken into account. 

During the selection process, the internal selection committee may contact departments and colleges for their opinions and commitments.  They may also request additional information from PIs.

May 16, 2008: The Internal Selection Committee will notify PIs of the result of the internal competition.

May 20, 2008: Deadline for submission of abstract.

June 10, 2008:  Notification from Lockheed Martin by email of each abstract evaluation status.
